JURY'S VERDICT An action for damages came before the Chief Justice, Sir Michael Myers, and a jury of twelve on Monday in which Dietrich Hans Borchardt claimed £650 general damages and £35 5s 9d special damages from G. R. McKay, Limited, sheet metal workers, the cause of action being an allegation of negligence on the part of the defendant company in requiring plaintiff to work at a machine which was defective and dangerous. Plaintiff suffered the loss by amputation of the terminal joints of the index and middle fingers of the right hand. The defence was a general denial of negligence. After a short retirement, the jury found that negligence was established and awarded general damages, £450, and special damages as claimed, £35 5s 9d. Mr. C. J. O'Regan appeared for the plaintiff and Mr. W. E. Leicester for the defendant company.
