1.L.0. DECLARATION
ENDORSED BY ROOSEVELT Rec. 10.45 a.m. RUGBY, May 17. President Roosevelt told a group of 150 delegates to the International Labour Office conference that worldwide "economic security and opportunity/ shall be the central aim of our international economic deliberations as we look towards the post-war world. He endorsed the terms of the post-war declaration of the conference and expressed the hope that it would be wholeheartedly endorsed by all the United Nations within a short time. Mr. Roosevelt said that the fundamental principle of the 1.L.0. declaration, that "poverty anywhere constitutes a danger to prosperity everywhere," should be recognised by the entire world. He added: "You affirmed the right of all human beings to material well-being and spiritual development under conditions of freedom, dignity, economic security, and opportunity."—B.O.W.
