LECTURE ON VOLCANOES
Volcanoes and their eruptive tendencies were discussed by Dr. P. Marshall last evening, in a lecture to members of the Wellington branch of the New Zealand Geographical Society. Some world-famous eruptions, such as those of Krakatoa and Mount Pelee, came under review, but the major portion of the lecture was devoted to describing past volcanic activity in New Zealand and to a discussion on the volcanic deposits found in various parts of the Dominion. Egmont, with its many surrounding conical mounds, the Tarawera eruption of 1886, and the ash deposits found in the central part of the North Island, were described, and among the films shown on the screen were some of lava flows and of Mount Ngauruhoe in eruption some 15 years ago. ,
