"The Australian Government cordially welcomes the appointment of Mr. Barclay as New Zealand High Commissioner to Australia in place of Mr. Berendsen, who is going to Washington as New Zealand Minister," said the Attorney-General, Dr. Evatt. "Mr. Barclay ITas had extensive farming experience, and this will undoubtedly enable him to make a particularly valuable contribution to the development of the economic collaboration between the two countries as provided for in the Australia-New Zealand Agreement." Paying a tribute to Mr. Berendsen, Dr. Evatt said he had been a most active and enthusiastic representative, and had done outstanding work in establishing and developing the office of High Commissioner for New Zealand in Australia. He had also made an important contribution to the success of the Australia-New Zealand Conference, and to the establishment of the secretariat set up at Canberra in accordance with the Aus-tralia-New Zealand Agreement. The secretariat was working smoothly and effectively. The Government extended to Mr. Berendsen hearty wishes for every success in his new post at Washington.
