SERVICE IN FIELD
AWARDS APPROVED The War Office has advised that the King has approved the following awards to Second N.Z.E.F. personnel in recognition of gallant and distinguished service in the field:— Distinguished Conduct Medal. Cpl. Edwin Frank Carr. Mrs. R. S. Carr, 656 Manukau Road, Epsom, Auckland (w.). Military Medal. T/Sgt. Patrick John Kane. Mr. T. Kane, 30 Bryce Street, Cambridge (f.). Pte. Taoni Tom Nathan (also known as Tom Taoni). Mrs. Rose Martin, Miti Miti P. 0., Hokianga (sister). Mentioned in Dispatches. T/Capt. Charles K. Saxton. Mrs. A. M. Saxton, 16 Onslow Street, Dunedin (w.). Cpl. Carr, whose home is in Auckland, left for the Middle East ten months ago. He was wounded recently. Sgt. Kane was formerly a school teacher in the employ of the Wanganui Education Board. He sailed in October, 1940. Pte. Nathan is a seaman in private life and worked for a shipping company with headquarters in Helensville. He left New Zealand in July, 1941. Captain Saxton was before the war a commercial traveller for Ross and Glendining, Ltd., Invercargill, > and is a well-known All Black footballer. He has been overseas since December, 1942.
