FOR PAHIATUA

O.C. PALMERSTON N., This Day. Awapuni stables will be well represented at the. Pahiatua Meeting. Most of the horses which raced at Trentham are on the easy list but there was some interesting work yesterday morning when Pahiatua candidates were given their final trials. The plough, which had some moisture in it, was the popular track, and probably- the most impressive gallop was that of Nighean (M. Andrews) over seven furlongs. After running the first two furlongs in 26sec she broke 40sec for the last three to complete smoothly in 1.31 3-5. Alchemy (A. G. Waddell) went with Tavern Light (S. Waddell) over a mile. The pace was sound all the way, and they came home the last three furlongs in 41sec to complete in 1.46 3-5. Maestro (A. G. Waddell), with a pull in the weights, was in front of Taane Pango (L. C. Brown) at the end of a mile in 1.50, the last three in 41 4-ssec. Maestro worked really well. Crackerjack (A. G. Waddell), Capine (T. Paul), and Hakim (Brown), gal- J loped seven furlongs, travelling very fast over the first half-mile. They came home in 43sec to cover the full distance in 1.34 4-5. Bendemeer (Brown), Severity (A. G. Waddell), and Vernon (Paul) were in that order at the end of six furlongs in 1.19 3-5, the last three in 40 3-ssec. Bendemeer worked well. Glenurquhart appeared to be going better than Golden Days at the end of five furlongs in 1.6. Glenurquhart is a three-year-old grey gelding by Theio out of Piuthair. He can gallop. ! Deference (J. Fagan) and Taj-apa (A. S. Ewan) took 1.7 for five, the last three in 41sec. Sterling Lad (V. Sellars) appeared to be doing his best at the end of half a mile in 51 2-ssec. Young Margaret (Andrews), on the course proper, slipped easily over three furlongs in 39sec. Red Foil and a companion slipped over half a mile in 54sec, the last three in 39 2-ssec.
