ANNIVERSARY DAY

HOLIDAY OBSERVANCE

Many inquiries have been made as to whether Anniversary Day, January 22, which falls on a Saturday this year, is to be observed as the official holiday this year, or whether it is, like some other occasions, a "Mondayised" holiday.

Anniversary Day is not a "Mondayised" holiday; it is always observed on its due date, except when it falls on a Sunday, wlien special provision in some awards requires its observance on the following Monday. This will not occur for several years, as next year's anniversary will fall on a Monday, owing to the extra day through 1944 being leap-year. All employees governed by awards giving Anniversary Day as a holiday must therefore be allowed a full day off on Saturday, January 22.

The only shops which may remain open that day are fruiterers, confectioners, tearooms, restaurants, milk bars, and cake shops.
