The further outlook is for changeable and cooler weather. The Moon. —Full moon, January 10. High Water.—Today, 2.20 p.m.; tomorrow, 2.44 a.m., 3.9 p.m. Thousands of Ladybirds. Ladybirds in quantity are at the present time very noticeable in Napier and other parts of Hawke's Bay. "There seemed to be lens of thousands of them," said a Hastings visitor when mentioning that at Westshore one day last week he and his family had to leave the beach because of thousands of ladybirds of many different colours which clung to their hair and clothes. Total Eclipse of Sun. The first of this year's eclipses, a total one of the sun, is due to take place during the early hours of January 26, but no phase of it will be visible in New Zealand. The path of totality extends across the Eastern Pacific, South America, the Atlantic, and north-west Africa. Angling- Conditions. The main rivers throughout the Wellington district are in good fishing order, reported the Wellington Acclimatisation Society yesterday. Some of the small streams are very low, and are not recommended to anglers at the present time. Bottle Smashers Busy. During Christmas week 40 Corporation buses had to have tyres .repaired because of cuts from broken bottles. Ten were cut right through the lining! fabric and completely ruined. The! tyres cost £35 each. The present state of the tramway tracks is also causing minor injuries to bus tyres where slivers of steel are picked up. , . Sunshine Keeps Up. Although December only just failed to break sunshine records, January has started off even better. ' December averaged 10 hours of bright sunshine a day, but the first six days of January have averaged over 11 hours with the following figures:—l2.9, 10.5, 10.3, 13.5, 10.2, and 11.5 hours. This makes .68.9 hours for the six days. Today's sunshine, however, will show a lapse to single figures owing to the increase in cloud.
