PETONE RED CROSS PARTY
An enjoyable party held recently in the Petone Tennis Club's pavilion was organised by the Petone sub-centre of the New Zealand Red Cross Society to mark the end of the year's activities and the presentation of certificates, j Members of the Voluntary Aid Detachment were the guests of honour. Mrs. Harold Green, Mayoress, was welcomed by the committee and presented with a spray of roses., A varied programme had been arranged. Mrs. R.: Douglas was the accompanist, and also with her two small daughters played a trio on the piano. Mrs. Isobel Halligan caused many a reminiscent chuckle with her humorous item "My First Day as a Voluntary Aid in Hospital. Songs were sung by Mrs. R. Carpenter, Miss Ruby Dick, and Miss Margaret Green. ; Mrs. Green presented the certificates won during the year, including some to testify to 60 hours of voluntary duty in hospital. She expressed her appreciation of what the local sub-centre-is doing to further Red Cross work generally.
