FORMER WAR PRISONERS
Repatriated New Zealand prisoners of war from Italy, including some who escaped after the invasion by Allied forces, were among a draft which returned to New Zealand recently. All were in good health and pleased to be home. In welcoming them, the Prime Minister (Mr. Fraser). expressed his gratitude to those men on land and sea and in the air who had done so much for our cause, and hoped that the members of the draft would soon be restored to complete health.
The services in New Zealand were proud of the work • that ' had been done by New Zealanders ■ overseas, said the Minister of Defence (Mr. Jones), and he was sure that the men who had returned had worthily upheld the high traditions set in the past.
Representatives of local bodies and the R.S.A. also spoke, to the men, and the Minister of Rehabilitation (Major Skinner) gave them advice-as to their return to civilian life.
