LITERARY COMPETITION
Given, the opportunity to express their latent literary talent, under a scheme promoted last .year by the Army Education Welfare Service and the National Broadcasting Service, men and women of the armed forces in New Zealand and. the Pacific responded in surprising numbers. The scheme was conducted as a competition, and included radio plays, short stories, descriptive sketches, narrative poems, and lyric poems. Entries closed on December 1. '
The judging is being, done by committees set up by the two Services. Prizes ranging up to 20 guineas were offered.
The lyric poem section attracted 142 entries, while 40 entered narrative poems. There were 83 short stories, 39 descriptive sketches, and 39 radio plays.
