PROHIBITION BILL

WAR MEASURE IN U.S.A.

Rec. 9 a.m. WASHINGTON, January 5

Responding to demands from 100,000 individual petitioners, the judicial subcommittee of the House of Representatives will begin hearings on national prohibition legislation when Congress meets next week.

A Bill introduced by Representative Bryson last March would ban intoxicating beverages for the duration of the war, in order to reduce absenteeism, conserve man-power, and speed war production.

A bitter fight is expected. Opponents of the Bill contend that it would be unfair to impose prohibition on servicemen who are overseas.
