ATTACKS ON MR. FRASER
REPLY BY FEDERATION AND
LABOUR PARTY
A statement relative to attacks made by Mr. C. G. Scrimgeour upon the Prime Minister and the Labour Party was issued today, signed by Messrs. J. Roberts and M. Moohan, president and secretary respectively of the New Zealand Labour Party, and Messrs. A. McLagan and F. Cornwell, president and secretary respectively of the New Zealand Federation of Labour.
The statement said that in view of the attacks they felt that some defence should be made of the movement and its leader. It reviews at length the.actions taken prior to and subsequent to the dismissal of Mr. Scrimgeour from the position of Controller of Commercial Broadcasting, and resolutions passed by the Federation of Labour relative to these events are quoted. The statement concludes with a justification of the Prime Minister's attitude in this controversy and to his general leadership during the war. "His; integrity and tireless activity for the ideals of Labour and for the welfare of the people as a whole," it says, "are recognised and respected by everybody."
