FOOD FOR INDIA
IMPORTS RECOMMENDED
Rec. 9 a.m. DELHI, Sept. 22. The All-India food and grains policy committee recommends the Government to import a million tons of food and grains annually until further notice, with an additional half-million tons in the first year to provide a central reserve. The committee admits the shipping difficulties, but feels justified in pressing its recommendation, first of all because India's per capita consumption is so low that it cannot be greatly reduced, and, secondly, because Bengal, which is nearest to the scene of possible largescale military operations, is suffering great distress.
