HOSPITAL BOARD VACANCY
The Rev. F. J. Usher has retired from the Hospital Board. At last night's meeting of the City Council Councillor W. Stevens said he thought it would be a good thing if more business men were upon that board, and he proposed the appointment of Mr. G. S. Amos, a weli-known business man and manufacturer. -
Councillor R.*H. Nimmo said that he quite; agreed that Mr. Amos would be a capable member of the Hospital Board, but he thought the general policy and custom- should be followed and that the next candidate on the list should be appointed, whatever might be his political colour. The council should studiously avoid any suggestion of political bias. He moved an amendment accordingly, but there was no seconder, and, Mr. Amos being the only nominee, his appointment was agreed to.
At the request of the Wellington District. Taxi'cab Control Committee, an appeal i:- being made by the City Courfcil to residents to affix house numbers to the gates of their homes or in some other prominent position readily visible from the street. - .
Consideration is to be given, in connection with the framing of next year's estimates, to the establishment of a branch library at Khandallah.
