COAL IN SACKS
MAXIMUM WEIGHT 140LB
O.C. AUCKLAND, This Day. As from this morning, members of the Auckland Drivers' Union will not carry coal or briquettes in sack lots in excess of 1401b (the customaryweight was 1901b or 12 bags to the ton). This was decided at a wellattended meeting of the general drivers' section of the union last night. The meeting further impressed on the union officials and the secretary, Mr. L. G. Matthews, particularly, that something would have to be done about the delivery of coal to houses situated in awkward places. Orakei,. where in many cases there are small valleys between the roads and houses, was particularly mentioned. The considered opinion of the meeting, was that in such places sacks containing no more than Icwt of coal should be carried by the driver from the truck to the house. The meeting decided that representations should be made to the Auckland Coal Dealers' Association on the subject of delivery to awkward places.
