THE WEIGHT OF BREAD

P.A. AUCKLAND, This Day. Comment on what he called a misleading advertisement of the National Party regarding the weight and standard of bread was made by the Minister of Supply (Mr. Sullivan) at Pukekohe last night. He said that before the bread standard was established purchasers had no protection concerning weights. The Labour Government had passed a regulation providing that when a standard 21b loaf was ordered the baker was compelled to provide it. Referring to non-standard loaves Mr. Sullivan said that under the old law the weights were lib 4oz and lib Boz. The Labour Government increased those weights to lib 12oz.

Councillor W. H. Stevens has been appointed chairman of the staff committee of the City Council. An additional artesian well is to be sunk at Gear Island, at an estimated cost of £550. ;
