WELLINGTON NORTH

An interested and appreciative audience heard Mr. A. H. Carman, the Independent candidate for Wellington North, in the Terrace Congregational Church hall last night. Mr. Carman urged much closer control of members of Parliament by the electors, and suggested that this could best be secured by returning members free from party control. The major failure of the Government was that of losing contact with the people; they had lost the common touch, and were not interpreting the wishes of the electors. The remedy lay with the people, and the opportunity was theirs of voting for men who would truly represent them, and whose first loyalty was not to some party or sectional interest. Mr. V. J. Leek presided, and a motion of thanks was carried with acclamation.
