HUTT SPRING SHOW
The Hutt Valley Spring Flower Show; was opened at St. James's Hall yesterday by Air Commodore G. T. Jarman. It will close tonight. On behalf of the Dig for Victory. Campaign, Mr. N. B. Gibbons, president of the society, stated that at the next show a special feature would be made of a display of vegetables. Now was the time to get ready to compete, and he hoped all would take part in the Dig for Victory Campaign. The awards were:—Champion bloom and champion trumpet in the open class, a "C. Lochin," a white trumpet, shown by Mr. J. Gray; champion in the open class for non-trumpets, a "Dunkeld" shown by Mr. H. Poole; champion trumpet in the amateur class, a "Rosstrevor" shown by Mr. F. G. Oddy; and the champion non-trumpet, an "Assini" shown by Mr. J. S. Stalker. There were record entries for the Law Trophy, which was won by Mr. G. S. Young (Ngaio) with Mr. F. G. Oddy runner-up The National Daffodil Society's award was won by Mr. C. H. Matthews, Mr. J. S. Stalker runner-up, and Mr. G. Cairns "in third place; the Bledisloe Cup by Mr. G. S. Young (Ngaio), runner-up Mr. J. S. Stalker, and the Lowe Memorial by Mr. H. Poole, with Mr. J. T. Gray runner-up. The decorative classes in the show were well up to standard and the juvenile decorative classes were exceedingly good.
