TEN AGAINST 200

D.S.O. FOR LEADER Rec. 11.10 a.m. RUGBY, September 14.

How a British officer, eight Maoris, and one signaller held a village in Takrouna ridge for 12 hours- against 200 of the enemy is told in the announcement of the award of the D.S.O. to Lieutenant A. L. McTiffin, of the Royal Artillery.

Lieutenant McTiffin established an observation post at the southern end of the village,- the northern end still being in enemy hands, and despite incessant mortar and artillery fire maintained the position.—B.O.W.
