SALVAGE OF WASTE

PATRIOTIC FUNDS HELPED

From the reclamation and sale of waste in New Zealand it has not only been possible to make valuable materials available for new uses, but also in the past two years and nine months, as a result of the operations under the National Council for the Reclamation of Waste Material, patriotic funds have benefited materially. The amount paid into patriotic funds from this source is £23,867.

Recently Mr. G. A. Hayden, secretary of the National Patriotic Fund Board, received a cheque from the Reclamation.,of Waste Council for £6850, which, with grants previously made, brought the total for the year ended March 31 last to £9385 15s 4d. This money has been allocated to the provincial patriotic councils on the basis of the value of waste material salvaged in their provinces, being as follows:—Southland, £49 15s; Auckland, £2139 3s 6d; East Coast, £69, 17s 7d; Otago, £994 5s 8d; Hawke's Bay, £356 9s; Taranaki, £505 0s lOd; Wellington, £1605 15s 8d; Nelson, £161 2s 8d; Canterbury, £3200 10s lid; Westland, £297 11s.

The secretary of the National Patriotic Fund Board, on behalf of the provincial patriotic councils, has written to the Waste Council'expressing thanks and congratulating the council on its magnificent effort.
