BIG BATTLE LOOMS
FARMERS AND U.S. FORCES
LONDON, September 14,
The United States Congress reassembled today, and both Houses are prepared for a bitter battle over the drafting of American farmers into the forces.
Reference was made to the Canadian announcement that the home defence forces of the Dominion are to be reduced by 20,000 men in view of the reduced threat to the Aleutians and elsewhere. A correspondent says that the Canadian announcement was referred to by the chairman of the Military Affairs Committee of the Senate as an irrefutable argument against drafting farmers in the United States.
