WAR IN PACIFIC
TEMPO TO BE QUICKENED (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright.) SYDNEY, September 13. "The tempo of the war in the Southwest Pacific will be quickened immediately," said Senator R. O. Brewster, a member of the party of United States Senators touring world battlefronts. "The fall of Italy and the opening of the Mediterranean Sea route will release to the Allies at least 200 ships for use elsewhere. "Last year the Germans sunk 12,000,000 tons of our shipping—more than we were building, but we have now built up a force of escort vessels which has demonstrated its power to beat the submarine, and - the United States shipbuilding programme is astounding. We are constructing from five to ten times more than the Germans can possibly sink. From now on we shall begin to see the shipping needed to serve this area adequately." Senator Russell said that throughput its world tour the party had been impressed by the absolute unity of the United Nations. In the South-west Pacific the party- had been amazed at the military accomplishments with the limited material available.
