THE KIDDING OF SYD.

A LATTER-DAY FABLE.

Once Upon a Time, dear Children, there was a ' Noble ' Fellow with the label of Syd who believed in the Team Spirit. People were Wise to the Fact that he,believed in the Team Spirit because he Got the Thing Off His Chest at every available Opportunity. And then he Joined a Team which Rejoiced in the name of War Cabinet, and he Told the People how Proud he was to be In The Team. A few days Went By arid this Dyed-in-the-Wool Sportsman who believed in the Team Spirit decided that it was Time he Did Something. So he drew his Private Secretary to his Desk and said Take this Down and Lick It into the Shape that will show what a Doer I am. The P.S. with his Ickle Typewriter did as he was Told, and he put into Syd's Hand a Statement which said Unkind Things about his colleagues of the War Cabinet, including those who were On His Side. And he Rushed this statement to a man called Paul in order that it should reach the Public Print so the People could see what a Go-Getter he was. But this man Paul reckoned that the Other Members of the Team might like to see it Before it Went Out and he Let the War Cabinet cast an Eye Upon It. They were Impressed by Syd's Idea of what constituted the Team Spirit, but thought the People might not think that Syd was Quite Playing the Game. And the Precious Document for reasons. Obvious to all but Syd did not reach the Public just then. And he went about Chewing the Cud. • Finally he Burst into Song about the way Paul had Canned his Precious Document. But Peter immediately Spoke Up in the House and stated Unequivocally that Paul had not Put the Lid on Syd's Kid. . And Syd could not Deny the Truth. So he said: "It is Not Good to talk at Peter because he will Hit Back and he Has the Goods. You hit at Paul and that might hurt Peter." His Cobbers said: "But Paul didn't do it."- And Syd gave them a Brilliant Idea. J'You. go on blaming Paul," he Scintillated, "because he don't Reply and we might Get Away with It." But, my Little Ones, the People remembered what Peter said, and they Didn't Like the Notion, of a man Smacking at his Cobbers and they Counted Him Out.

Moral: If you talk about Team Spirit, you must Play the Game. —Advt.
