CHALLENGE MATCH
ATHLETIC BEAT CHAMPIONS
Wellington's Jnter-club Rugby football ended on Saturday afternoon with a triumph for the Athletic seniors, who had been given the right to play the senior champions, P.oneke-Oriental, for tho National Mutual Cup. The match was played at Athletic Park under splendid conditions, but throughout the run of play the champions were more on the defensive than in any other match this season, and in that respect the event was not up. to expectations. Athletics performance, ■ however, was full of merit, and the challengers polished it off with a series of excellent scoring efforts in the final stages of the match to make the final score 26-0 in their favour. Amongst those. to show Up spectacularly for Athletic were Wales, Tindill, and Roberts. The last-named scored two tries and Molller, Brown, and Wales one each, Jluir converting four and kicking a penalty goal. L.A.C. A. Hooper was the referee A curtain-raiser was played between the junior teams, Upper Hutt (champion) and Training College. The result of a keenly-con-tested match was a win for Upper Hutt by 13 points to 6.
Eastbourne played a match with the Navy at Eastbourne on Saturday and won by 8 points to 6.
The result of the fifth B match, Petone B v. Onslow (won by Petone B 9-3), leaves the result of the championship to be determined by the result of a match between Hutt and Petone B next Saturday.
