P.A. WHANGAREL This Day! The Minister of Rehabilitation (Major Skinner) received a vote' of confidence from a meeting he address-; ed last evening. Speaking of the Land Sales Act he emphasised his statement that no genuine farmer had anything to fear, the speculator being the only person having cause to worry. He did not think more than 10 per cent. vOf returned servicemen would want to settle on the land.

"I believe the pressure of money on investment will automatically reduce the rate of interest," said the leader of the National Party (Mr. •• Holland) in his address tonight at His Majesty's Theatre, when discussing, the housing policy of his party. He was'hopeful that there would be a fall in the rate of interest for housing. The suggestion had been made for political purposes that under its policy of freehold .for State tenants the National Party would .put the present tenants out of their State houses, continued Mr. Holland. The party would do nothing of the kind, but would give the option of purchase of homes to the present tenants at weekly payments not exceeding their existing rentals. .. ■•*. "If we become the Government the South Island main trunk railway will be completed," said Mr. Holland, who added that he had never opposed the completion of the line and was not in Parliament when the work was stopped. . ■ • The attendance was the largest at a political meeting in 31enheim since the campaign began, the hall being packed by 1100 people. The Mayor, Mr. C. T. Smith, presided, and only a small section made any interjections. . Mr Holland spoke in both islands yesterday, for after leaving Wanganui in the morning he addressed a meeting at Feilding. He crossed the Strait by steamer..
