REPORT FROM BERNE
ITALY MAY FIGHT NAZIS
NEW YORK, September 10. The Berne correspondent. of the "New York Times" says that the Badoglio Government is reliably reported to be about to declare war on Germany unless the Reich withdraws its support from the Fascist "national government." The action, which was decided upon at a. meeting of the King's Privy Council, says the correspondent, is apparently designed <to stimulate resistance by the population of northern Italy in the event of German annexation. Washington is again buzzing with rumours of German peace efforts. It is reported that Herr Schelenburg has been sent to Stockholm and Dr. Schacht to Switzerland to discover both the Russian and the BritishAmerican attitudes.
