ATTACKED BY U.S. PLANES

Bee. 11 ajn. RUGBY, July 12. A successful attack on Japanese merchant shipping is announced in a United States navy communique, which states that in the North Pacific on Saturday American bombers attacked four Japanese cargo vessels 280 miles southwest of Attu. One vessel was sunk and one left sinking and the others damaged. On Sunday morning United States light surface units bombarded positions on Kiska and Little Kiska.—B.O.W.
