ENCOUNTER IN CHANNEL
LONDON, June- 3,« 5 Berlin radio stated that enemy ships appeared last night off the Channel Islands. German naval long-range batteries shelled the ships and German coastguard vessels in the Channel made contact with light British naval forces. Hits were observed on the British units, it was declared, and they broke off the engagement.
