SOCIAL FQR WORKERS AT : INFORMATION BUREAU

In recognition of the voluntary -work done- by women ; members of the British-American . Co-operation ■ Moyei irient, who... have for :the last nine months staffed" tHe informatton bureau at'the Alljed Services Club, a social evening w>s given i*ecently by, the executive of . the organisation in the English-speaking Union rooms. Since its inception soyenty women, working on a roster basis, have been on duty at the iriforniatipn. bureau from 10 am. to 10 pan. daily;, and .during fthjs, time have provided' an invaluable service to men of the Armed Forces, . Mr. A. Leigh. Hunv chairman of the executive,- spoke in glowing terms: of the work'done by the ladies,• and in particular* of the work done by the director of the bureau., Mrs. W. T. H. Jackson .(Miss Mavis Connor), and in recognition- of the work done by her and on the occasion of her irecent marriage he had previously presented her •with a'cheque from the executive. Mr. G/A/Hayden; secretary of the National Patriotic' Fund Board, also thanked the ladies, on behalf of his board, and said he regretted 'it had been found necessary 'to close the bureau on account of the; club, needing the space; for monev-chariging facilities.
