MISSING TAXI DRIVER
MAN CHARGED WITH MURDER -, (P.A.) ASHBURTON, This Day. ' Arrested late yesterday afternoon j while skating at a rink, John Hector] McAuley, aged 17 jfears and nine months, labourer, Of Tinwald, is charged with th^,. murder of Mrs. Wilhelmina Webster,, aged 36, taxidriver, who' disappeared on Monday night.'- Mrs. Webster's body was found yesterday afternoon in a disused septic tank on a section where the accused lived in the township of Tinwald. Indications'-are-that a fire was lighted in brush placed over the body about midday. ~ About 3 o'clock a neighbour, fearing danger of fire, made ■an investigation. ! McAuley appeared before justices this morning,, and was remanded, tq appear "at Christchurch on March 25. When the body was found, all th£ clothing* had been burned' from it and it was charred almost beyond; recogni-f tion, but a portion of a white dust coat'which Mrs. Webster was wearing at the time of? her disappearance could be identified, x ?: A subsequent investigation made by Senior Detective H. Nuttall, DetectiveSergeant J. J. Halcrdw, Detective N. I Thompson, and Detective G. Alty, all of Christchurch, led shqrtly afterwards to, the arrest.
