WAR DAMAGE RATE
NO CHANGE CONTEMPLATED
"The Prime Minister's reply is just another case of brushing us off," de--clared Mr. M. S. Hunt at last night'smeeting of the Wellington Chamber 6i* Commerce when a letter from Mr.? Fraser to the Associated Chambers of. Commerce,,, in reply to the Associated' Chambers' proposal for reducing the amount of war damage premium was read. . --, Mr. Fraser said that the Goyernment. did not feel justified in making any alteration at present in reducing theamount of war damage premium. "I think that, as prominent members of, the business community, members o£the Chambers of Commerce generally,; appreciate the high value of goodsand property at risk, particularly in: the main ports," said Mr. Fraser. "The total amount in the War Damage Fund is in the vicinity of £1,500,000 at present and. in view of the heavy risk involved, this amount does not represent a reserve sufficient to justify a reduction in the premium. The chambers' views will be kept in mind when any further consideration is being given to this subject."
The chairman (Mr. A. C. Wall) said they were entitled to know whether the Prime Minister would state what sum should be reached. Mr. Frank Wilson said there was n&l possibility at present of getting any; reduction in the premium.
