SUMMER FLOWER SHOW
The summer flower show of the Wellington Horticultural Society is being held in St. Paul's Schoolroom and was opened today by the Mayor, Mr. T. C. A. Hislop. The space available is only a tithe of that in the Town Hall, where the shows are usually held, but the best of it has been made and the show is very bright and interesting. The display of gladioli is particularly fine, and among the stately blooms are several novelties raised in New Zealand, this country now having the reputation of being able to raise gladioli equal if not superior to any raised in Europe. The begonias on exhibition are also magnificent, the colouring and size of many of them being startling. Hydrangeas and other summer flowers add softer tones to the display, and the entries in the vegetable classes are particularly good. The decorative classes are up to the usual high standard, and the City Council's display as a frontal decoration of the stage is once again a work of art.
