PATRIOTIC BASEBALL

U.S. MARINE CORPS TEAMS

"The United States Marine Corps is here for war. and the men train six days a week for ten hours a day," to quote the words of one officer, and as a consequence the public have so far had few opportunities, apart from.occasional appearances by boxers, of seeing the visitors in action in the athletic field. On January 31, at Athletic Park, the public will see the first "all-marine" sporting fixture to be staged in this city. It will be a presentation of America's national game of baseball by welltrained and thoroughly experienced players. The match is a challenge one between teams drawn from different camps, and will have all the rivalry which characterises any organised competitive game. Both teams are training daily, and if competence and enthusiasm on the part of the players mean anything, the public should see a first-class match. The organisers, headed by Captain Orien W. Todd, jun., are working hard to ensure that it will be the success it deserves to be. The game is being played for patriotic purposes, and the Marine Corps Band will be present. This alone should ensure a large attendance. Particulars are advertised in this issue.
