DIPLOMATIC STAFF
TO BE TRAINED BY AUSTRALIA
(Rec. 12.45 p.m.) CANBERRA, January 23. Australia is to train its own diplomatic staffs for service abroad. This has been announced by the Minister of External Affairs, Dr. H. V. Evatt, who said Australia's foreign interests and relations, particularly in the Pacific area, had grown enormously. New Legations had also been established at Washington, Chungking, and Russia. All this necessitated expansion of the diplomatic staff. Candidates would have a course of intensive study and, if suitable, would be posted abroad. A year's course, covering international affairs, would be part of the training.
