CLUB FOR U.S. SERVICEMEN
The order paper for a special meet* ing of the City Qouncil to be held pn Monday has an interesting item in a reference to a proposal to erect a club for American servicemen on the open ground at the rear of the . Central library. A proposal was made, after the Wo heavy shakes last year, that temporary offices should be erected on this site to accommodate members of the Town Hfall and traffic and other staffs whose premises had been damaged, but space was found for them in the library and elsewhere, There is so great a demand ior all floor space in existing buildings that club rooms with the capacity desired are not to be obtained, except by building.
Mr. Ponald Gordon, chairman of the Canadian Wartime Price? and Trade Board, has issued a four^point plan for Canadian housewives— (1) to keep the cost of living stabilised, (2) to buy only what you need, (3) to eliminate waste, and (4) to conserve what you have. Mr. Gordon believes that 1943 will see more materials diverted to war production and increased exports to our Allies with the use of a greater proportion of shipping for war purposes. All this will mean less goods for the people at home
