VEGETABLE STATISTICS
Statistics of production by commercial market gardeners are considered essential j n order that the Government should be able to know that adequate supplies are available for the Armed Forces and the civilian population, said the 'Minister of Agriculture (Mr. Barclay) last night in emphasising the obligation to furnish statistics of production. ■. Every pccupier of a commercial garden of half an acre or over, or the occupier pf a glasshouse covering an area of not less than 2500 square feet, pr the occupier of a commercial garden comprising a glasshouse and open land which together aggregate an area of half an acre or more Ithe area under glass being computed at the rate of 5000 square feet an acre), is directed by the notice to funish to the Primary Industries Controller particulars of the crops at present under cultivation and those crops to be planted before July 3} next. The returns should Include all vegetable crops with the exception °t potatoes, and are required to be con> pleted and posted by growers not later than February 1. The necessary forms are obtainable frpm, any office of the pepartment of Agriculture.
