TIMBER SHIPMENTS
EFFORT TO ELIMINATE PESTS
(Rec. 9 a.m.) CANBERRA, Oct. 29
The Minister of Commerce, Mr. W. J. Scully, announced that regulations were being brought into operation as from December 1 prohibiting the export of certain timber to New Zealand unless it has been certified as being free from termite or other insect infestation.
This action is being taken at the request of the New Zealand Government and in association with legislation which is being introduced by that Government to control the imports of the timber prescribed. It comprises (a) timber in the round, (b) heart timber, (c) sleepers, (d) any other timber free of heart with a cross sectional area of not less than 60 square yards.
