NEW SPIRIT PREVAILS
| (P.A.) AUCKLAND, This Day. i "Since the men returned to work a transformation has come over the i Waikato mining district," said the Minister of Mines (Mr. Webb) referring- to his visit to Huntly. "The utmost good will prevails all round and everybody appears to appreciate the need for increased coal production." Mr. Webb said that the control board met' the Industrial Production Council and Pit Committees last night. The feeling on all sides was excellent. Never before had there been such close co-operation between the representatives of the companies and the miners. ! "What I saw was most inspiring. A spirit of good will has been introduced which will last a long time." Mr. Webb said that both sides agreed that there had been a lot of exaggeration concerning men staying away from work deliberately. He intended taking up the question of absenteeism among Maoris with the Minister in Charge of the Maori war effort, Mr. Paikea. Neither pakeha nor Maori would be allowed to hold up production. Co-operative trucking was releasing more experienced men for work on the coal face.
