READY TO STRIKE
JAP FORCE ON SOVIET
BORDER
(Rec. 1.30 p.m.) NEW YORK, Sept. 11. The Chinese authorities give strong credence to the reported Russo-Japan-ese frictions and confirm the statement that the Japanese war machine isi poised to strike against Siberia, says the Chungking correspondent of the "New York Times."
He quotes a Chinese spokesman as saying this. The spokesman added that it had been learned that the best Japanese troops were concentrated in Manchuria and Korea and were almost ready for a large-scale attack. The Japanese recently forcibly mobilised men aged 18 to 40 in occupied Chinese territory for military service. They pressed able-bodied men below 18 and over 40 into military construction work along the Siberian border. Japanese leaders are reported not to be entirely in agreement, some endorsing and some opposing the demands for immediate action against Russia.
