PATROL ACTIVITY
REPORT FROM THE
DESERT
(Rec. 12.40 p.m.) RUGBY, Sept. 11. A Cairo communique says that patrol activity continued on Wednesday night. In the northern sector artillery was active yesterday.
On Wednesday night torpedo-carry-ing aircraft north of Derna scored a direct hit on an enemy merchantman. A violent explosion followed, and later reconnaissance revealed that the vessel was very low in the water and apparently sinking.
Owing to rising dust, air activity in the battle area yesterday was restricted.— 8.0-W.
