"SHADOW BOXING"
FEINTS BY ENEMY FORCE?
tßec. 9 a.m.) LONDON. Aug. 17. The enemy in the northern sector is intensifying his attempts to "shadow box" against Eighth Army patrols, possibly to divert attention from elsewhere, says Keuter's correspondent on the Alamein front. Empire troops in the northern sector are carrying out both night foot patrols and day mechanised patrols. The enemy in this sector has recently adjusted his line on higher ground nearer the coast, using low-grade Italian and German troops as positional infantry. There is speculation whether the enemy preparations in the north are not a disguise for attacks in the central and southern sectors. An Italian officer who was taken prisoner in the southern' sector revealed the arrival of new Italian and German personnel.
