Wellington Allurlais, Ltd., Melbourne, reports for 12 months ended April 30:—Time worked by dredge, 6759 hours; material handled, 2.508.000 cubic yards; barren overburden Included in above, 911,000 cubic yards; goldbearing washi 1,987,000 cubic yards; recovery of KOld bullion, 10,5550z; equal to fine gold, !)9970z. During period, an acute water shortage. Efficiency of gold recovery plant Impaired owing to excessive density of paddock water.' The total yardage dredged low because of exceptionally heavy digging conditions, and water shortage. Dredging continued on company's freehold, and average return per cubic yard was slightly higher than forecast at last annual meeting, viz., 1.65 grains per cubic yard as against .a recovery of 1.71 grains per cubic yard. All plant, buildings, and equipment maintained in good condition. Additional equipment acquired. The net profit for year is £15.025 4s 2d, after. charging depreciation. Transmission line from Orange to Apsley acquired by Railways Commissioners for £30,772, which amount has been credited to machinery,. plant, and equipment. . BUSINESS IN BRIEF. William Adams, Ltd., Sydney, net profit for year- ended April 30 was £20.773. against £34.870 for last year. Dividend Is s<i ordinary and 7 per cent, preference unchanged.. The report states that an additional £13,000 unforeseen taxation for 1940-41 had to be provided for out of the past year s earnings, which" accounted for lower profit. Depreciation charge was £7099, compared with £GGU in the preceding year. '•■ > : ■. Carroll. Musgrove Theatres. Ltd., Sydney, after providing £12.480 for taxation, made pvofit of ElO.'iP") prior to providing £1500 for depreciation for year ended June 30, compared witli £0778 for preceding year. Dividend on preference and deferred shares is S per. cent., against 7% per cent, for the previous year. Directors consider that it may; be found desirable or necessary at some future time to form an alliance with some other organisation in ttie same class of business.
