The annual meeting of the. Board of Governors of the Thomas George Macarthy Trust was held in Wellington today. The following were present:—His .Excellency the GovernorGeneral (Sir Cyril Newall), the Prime Minister; (the Hon. P. Fraser),. his Grace Archbishop O'Shea, the Mayor (Mr.T. C. A. Hislop), and the Public Trustee (Mr. W. G. Baird).

A distribution of £ 14,000 was approved. . Previous distributions were £295,467, so that with this "year's grants £309,467 has been made available for charitable and educational purposes and institutions in the provincial district of Wellington in terms" of the trust. •■'.•: . ; .■■•■• : ■■> ■-■'.' APPLICATIONS FOR GRANTS. In accordance -with the usual practice, applications were invited by notices in the public Press in January, and 173 applications were received, as compared with 169 last year. The applications are first considered by the advisory committee.set up under the authority of the Thomas George Macarthy Ti;ust Act, 1912. The present personnel of this committee is Mrs. Henry Hall, the Hon. W. Perry, M.L.C.. Mr, L. O. H. Tripp, arid Mr. W. G. Baird, Public Trustee (chairman). Arrangements are. being made to fill the vacancies caused by the deaths of Sir George Troup and' Mr. P. D.
