Eight Ships in One Day
LONDON, August 16,
Five 10,000-ton cargo ships for Britain were launched at a United States east coast port today. Their taking the water preceded by a few hours the launching of an American freighter and of two American destroyers. Rear-Admiral Emory S. Land, chairman of the U.S. Maritime Commission, told the workers: "Every time you hit a rivet think of it as Hitler and hit again, harder."

Eventually all American squadrons will be supplied with tools and spare parts by this department, which will also undertake major repairs. As one American airman remarked. "With the tools and parts, we can now get on with the work of finishing Ihe job."
