ARMY APPOINTMENTS
. . •■ ♦ : ' ■ The following appointments and promotions of officers of the New Zealand ; Military Forces were gazetted this week:— • > • '' ' ' ' ; Lieutenant-Colonel J. ,G. Jeffrey. M.C., V.D., A.D.C., is appointed a fort- , ress commander in the South Island in addition to his appointment as :irea commander, and is granted the temporary rank of colonel. Major R. Sinel, Reserve of Ofllcers. New Zealand Artillery, is promoted temporary lieutenant-colonel and is appointed Director •of Mechanical Transport, Army Headquarters, vice Major (temporary Lieutenant-ColoneD V. J. Innes, who is attached to the branch of the Quartermaster-General, 1 Army Headquarters. ' Captain :S. C. Hay is appointed ' Deputy Assistant Adjutant-General,' Northern Military District, and is granted the temporary rank of major while so employed. Major E. F. Laws, Second N.Z.E.F., is appointed Deputy Assistant Quarter-master-General, Central Military District. ■ > REGIMENTAL COMMAND. Lieutenant-Colonel C. N. Devery, D.C.M., who has been appointed to command a regiment, had four years' service in the last war and took part in the first Libyan campaign in this war. After 12 years' active Territorial service after the last war, he was posted to the Reserve of Officers with the rank of major. He was appointed Deputy Assistant Adjutant-General, Central Military District, in September, 1939, and Assistant Adjutant-Gen-eral in" June, 1940. On his return from the Middle East he was appointed Assistant Adjutant-General at Army Headquarters and held this until his present appointment.
