STILL FALLS SHORT

PATRIOTIC FUND APPEAL

The public appeal for £106,000 for general patriotic purposes from the Wellington, metropolitan district is continuing this week, and the am<sunt received at headquarters is mounting steadily. It was reported today by Mr. J. Annand-Smith, honorary organiser, that the promoters of the campaign were still far short of their objective, and that in some districts there appeared to be a lack of appreciation of the need for this money.

Some large amounts had been received this week from commercial firms in the city, and it was hoped that others would be sending their contributions before the end of the week.

The money raised in this campaign is to be devoted to general patriotic activities, the bulk of it going to provide, for the sick and wounded and for parcels for New Zealand prisoners of war. Other sums are to be spent on comforts for the forces, the relief of distress here and in. the United Kingdom, and for the spiritual needs of the troops. • .
