When Ivor John Boon, farmer manager, aged 28, appeared for sentence in the Supreme Court yesterday, having pleaded guilty at Nelson to send- i ing a threatening letter to a young' woman at Rai Valley, Marlborough, the Chief Justice (Sir Michael Myers) described the action as a foolish one, but said that it was not a case for imprisonment if 4.hat could be avoided. The prisoner was remanded until today for inquiry as to whether the military authorities would be prepared to take him into camp, counsel (Dr. O. C. Cunningham) said that the authorities were prepared to take Boon into camp immediately, and the prisoner himself said that he wanted to enter camp. He was admitted to probation for twelve months, conditional on his paying the costs of prosecution, £2 10s 6d, undertaking not to go into Marlborough Province without the prior consent of the probation officer at Wellington, and also undertaking not to communicate in any way with the young woman in the case.
