ANEW CITY FUND
The City Council last nightf decided to establish.a fund, of which £5000 (part of the profits of the electricity department for the year ended March 31 last) and £5201 (balance of the Waterloo Quay Improvements Fund) shall form the nucleus. The purpose of the fund is the resurfacing of streets authorised to be paved out of the 1927 Paving and Surface Sealing Loan of £201,000, and late/ of other streets as, the council may from time to time direct." •,
It was decided that the fund should be credited with a charge of 15 per cent, imposed on the cost of all works carried out by the City Engineer's department for other Corporation departments, the public, public bodies, and Government Departments. The "cost" is. to be the total of the following charges:—-Labour, direct materials and services, indirect labour and indirect materials, transport, and plant hire. The contributions to the fund under this proposal would approximate £2000 per annum. i
