Lieutenant-General PutticK, C.8., D.5.0., is General Officer Commanding the New Zealand Military Forces, and as such is in command of all the land forces in New Zealand.'He has had a ! distinguished career. Lieutenant-Gen-" I eral Puttick served with distinction in the war of 1914-18 arid in the present war added to his reputation for the manner in which he led the heroic i rearguard action of the New Zealand- | ers in Greece. When Lieutenant-Gen-eral Sir Bernard Freyberg was placed in command of all the Allied Forces in Crete, Lieutenant-General Puttick assumed temporary command .of the New Zealand Forces serving there. He returned to New Zealand last year from the Middle East to succeed MajorGeneral Sir John Duigan as Chief of the General Staff. \ Group Captain Hodson was recently posted to Air Headquarters. He was formerly in command of an R.N.Z.A.F. i station in Canterbury. He joined the | Royal Flying Corps in 1917, served during the Great War, and afterwards took part in operations in Irak. Before being seconded to the R.N.Z.A.F. he was chief flying instructor at No. 11 Flying Training School, Wittering. ; I

Lieutenant-Colonel E. R. McKillop in civil life is the Deputy City Engineer of Wellington. He served throughout the last war in. Samoa, Egypt, and France, in the ranks and as an artillery officer, and (was twice wounded. He entered camp with the Second Echelon, and subsequently took command of the engineer units attached to the Third Echelon. He was seconded for special duty to the Pacific area, and returned to the Dominion towards the end of last year. He at present holds an appointment on the Defence Construction Council as Deputy to Mr. James Fletcher, the Commissioner.

Lieutenant-Commander R. J. Bailey, M.8.E., was in H.M.S. ueandei while she was on the New Zealand Station. When the New Zealand supply mission went to the United States of America, he accompanied it as naval liaison officer, and till recently he was first naval attache at the New Zealand Legation in Washington.

Captain T. A. S. McKenzie, M.8.E., who was born in Timaru, served for two years of the Great War in the Canterbury Regiment, and joined the Permanent Staff at the beginning of 1919. He was stationed.in Dunedin for 15 years and was transferred.to Christchurch in 1939 on promotion as G.S.O. 3 at Headquarters, Southern Military District.
